Define What To Count Settings in AnyCount determine which objects should or should not be included in count results. These may include numbers, footers, headers, text in shapes, and so on. Select Count Units Before starting counting process, ensure that you select right count units. These can be characters with spaces, characters without spaces, words, lines, pages or your own count units. Below you can find a comparison of text count accuracy in Microsoft® Word 97, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2010 and AnyCount 8®. The comparison has been made to determine which file and text elements are and are not included in text count results produced by AnyCount 8® and Microsoft® Word 97, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2010 applications after each of them has been used for counting the same file. Text counts in Microsoft® Word 97, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2010 were obtained the following way:

  • Microsoft® Word 97, 2000 and 2003: On the Tools menu click Word Count item for all file formats which can be opened with Microsoft® Word 2003. These file formats are: DOC, RTF, WPD, and TXT.

  • Microsoft® Word 2007 and Microsoft® Word 2010: In the Proofing group click Review tab, then click Word Count, for all file formats which can be opened with Microsoft® Word 2007. These file formats are: DOC, DOCX, RTF, WPD, and TXT. The table below displays results of text counts by AnyCount 8® and Microsoft® Word 97, 2000, 2003, 2007 and 2010.

No – indicates that the element is not included in text count results.
